Destination and Gateway to the Sonora Gold Coast
Far northwest within Sonora State, it is just 60 miles from the border of the United States, and little more than a three hour drive from either Phoenix or Tucson.
Rocky Point is one of the youngest cities in Sonora State. As recently as 1941, when Puerto Peñasco was declared a municipal precinct, less than 200 people lived there, mostly working as fishermen.
While fishing and other commercial uses of the port continue to thrive, due to proximity to all of the southwestern United States, long-established American and Canadian communities, Rocky Point has experienced an explosion of vacation, second-home, and retirement building.
Brand New Amenities
As a result of the diversity and attractiveness of the housing and real estate investment opportunities for Americans and Canadians, Rocky Point has grown into a thriving city with many municipal, state and federal backed projects designed to modernize and develop its infrastructure.
These efforts include the completion of our international airport just minutes south of town, the coastal highway from El Golfo to Rocky Point and a complete re-vamping of the Old Port area, paving of streets throughout the city — just to name a few.
Rocky Point has come of age, and today offers its homeowners and visitors numerous amenities including:
The construction of the pier on Sandy Beach is now in progress and will be the home port for the Holland Cruise Line on the Sea of Cortez once all infrastructure is completed.
These amenities and more make Rocky Point a perfect second-home and retirement destination, as well as the best gateway to Sonora’s unspoiled Gold Coast!
